Making History Lily Damned White by Minimalizing Slavery (Tea Party)

I won't even say, excuse my profanity. I just want to know how in hell anyone thinks its okay to erase the facts of slavery from the history books? How in Hell can slavery be seen in a positive light? How in hell can anyone think its okay to basically say, it's no big deal our U.S. founders had slaves because that was just a part of the times? The torture, rape, murder, mistreatment of a group of people means nothing because that was the norm?  Let's just sweep that little fact under the rug and pay more attention to how they (founders) fought for the republic.

Well that's exactly what the Tea Party Groups in Tennessee want to do.

[During a news conference held in Tennessee, more than two dozen Tea Party activists handed out material that said, "Neglect and outright ill will have distorted the teaching of the history and character of the United States. We seek to compel the teaching of students in Tennessee the truth regarding the history of our nation and the nature of its government."] (via HuffingtonPost-) Again I say, what in hell? Fayette County attorney Hal Rounds, the group’s lead spokesman during the news conference, said the group wants to address “an awful lot of made-up criticism (as in not real) about, for instance, the founders intruding on the Indians or having slaves or being hypocrites in one way or another. Theses people also demand-  lawmakers to amend state laws governing school curriculum, and for textbook selection criteria to say that “No portrayal of minority experience in the history which actually occurred shall obscure the experience or contributions of the Founding Fathers, or the majority of citizens, including those who reached positions of leadership.”(via- The Commercial Appeal) In other words, forget that America's founding fathers built their wealth and country on the backs and blood of the minorities. Forget that they were kidnappers, murderers, and baby sellers. Forget that they broke up homes and destroyed lives because that only happened to Black people, and Indians. It's not the White experience so it doesn't matter. I am flabbergasted. And to top it all off these people want a hand in educating your children. They want to teach your little Black, minority babies that history was a lie and what their ancestors went through was not real.

The horrible thing is this group is following in the footsteps of the Texas School Board, who little more than a year ago succeeded in doing pretty much the same thing in text books. Anything showing Whites in bad light was eliminated. Many of the revisions passed then are being fought for review.

If we continue to let others change the history books to mirror their opinions and political agenda, we will end up with a country of American's who know absolutely nothing about the true Multiracial, history of their country. We will have people who believe slavery was just a myth and we will fall back into the past as easily as one can smother in quicksand.History and the books measuring history should mirror all races. It should include everything about it's country's formation rather it is good or bad. History is history people. Face your damned ghosts and deal with it.

It is vitally important to watch these groups and speak against them at every opportunity. The real solution is to be careful who is allowed to sit on local school boards. We've fallen asleep on the subject of the importance of these positions. Almost anyone can get on a school board these days because people are too distracted or apathetic when it comes to local elections. Local elections are extremely important. The infiltration of people pushing a political agenda into our local boards is a real threat to education. Thank you for an excellent article.
