Good old Texas, always a day late and a dollar short. Because of this 'natural' occurrence we in some states of America celebrate Juneteenth., that's June 19th Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day or Emancipation Day, commemorates the announcement of the abolition of slavery in the U.S. State of Texas in 1865. Things to know about the Juneteenth celebration.

  •  1. Slavery was proclaimed abolished by the Emancipation Proclamation on September 22, 1862 and put in effect January 1st in 1863.
  • 2. People (slaves) in Texas had no idea about this. Being such a huge state and living during the unfortunate times when the information age hadn't been invented, we can understand the delay in knowledge and being out of the loop with politics, human rights, equality, women's health care...
  • 3.During that time slavery was occurred more in East Texas, it was not as common in the Western areas of Texas, particularly the Hill Country, where most German-Americans were opposed to the practice. The Emancipation meant much of nothing to Texas slaves because they were held under the control of the Confederation.
  • 4. The announcement was made in Galveston, Texas by Union General, Gordon Granger on June 19, 1865.
  •  5. Union General Gordon Granger and 2,000 federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, to take possession of the state and enforce the emancipation of its slaves. Legend has it while standing on the balcony of Galveston’s Ashton Villa, Granger read the contents of “General Order No. 3
'The people of Texas are informed that, in accordance with a proclamation from the Executive of the United States, all slaves are free. This involves an absolute equality of personal rights and rights of property between former masters and slaves, and the connection heretofore existing between them becomes that between employer and hired labor. The freedmen are advised to remain quietly at their present homes and work for wages. They are informed that they will not be allowed to collect at military posts and that they will not be supported in idleness either there or elsewhere'

I'm just so happy my  home state of Texas finally received the invitation to move into the free world and let their slaves free so we were able to educate ourselves and become productive individuals.
No longer are we fined, punished or thrown in jail for teaching people of color to read. More specifically, teaching slaves to read. The general fear was if you taught slaves how to write they might, you know, think about their lot in life. They may not be happy about it. They just might educate themselves. And then the nightmare would begin: they might educate others

I don't know if you have been made aware of this in your neck of the world but, Texas Education Board has been rewritten history and now Tennessee's Tea baggers want to do the same. . Some people are so enamored with their own agenda they forget every choice we make affects someone else. Don't think this won't some day be a problem for any children you have a vested interest in. Because Texas purchases so many volumes of books, the state has a large influence on publishers and what the rest of the schools in the country will be teaching when it comes to history. These books are not changed for up to ten years!

Some of the things I that were eliminated, deleted, rewritten, and disparaged are people such as Columbus, the Civil Right Movements, and In the article it is also mentioned the study of Darwin will be replaced with military advanced technology. Many names were dropped because they are considered no longer relevant to history. Can you imagine the uproar in the meeting room when it was suggested our POTUS not be included in the book? How could he not be included when his election was such a major accomplishment for America....heck the world. Wow.Wait, and to cause a row about the man's middle name is ludicrous. People, Obama didn't name himself. I even have a nephew named Jesus (pronounced as in my Savior) and his parents definitely don't belong in the Bible.

At one time the in the boardroom the discussion was to also eliminate Christmas from the list of important holidays. Crazy.

After writing my biographical version of America's History I can understand the need to leave out some people because there are just too many to applaud. But to leave out people and events because they are not deemed socially correct or don't further your politically agenda is ridiculous. I at least included a list of as many people as possible in the back of the book. In my mind history was written in more than Black & White and that is how it should be read.

I read this article a few months ago in The Guardian "Texas schools board rewrites US history with lessons promoting God and guns" about the new things put in the history books.  Today it has resurfaced due to the Tea Party trying to change more of history. What I had never known is that whatever is chosen to be included in the history books by a few people from Texas is eventually taught to all children in American public schools. What a bunch of crock. This is nothing to close our eyes to.

The value of American history is about to be changed. What is expected to be voted on and more than likely to succeed is the elimination of vital parts of Our history. Any mention of the slave trade will be eliminated as will be Thomas Jefferson. People who were extreme believers in slavery, the necessity (not right) to bear arms will be illuminated. In the article it is also mentioned the study of Darwin will be replaced with military advanced technology.

This article is alarming because Texas with its purchases of millions of books tends to rule the publishing world. The majority of what is considered Liberal views will be eliminated from the history books. This is not even to mention the fact they want to put a black mark (excuse the pun) on the Civil Rights Movement.

The main thing I get from this article is the fact a few run it all. All it takes are a few radicals with crazy ideas to get in a group and make a change and for better or worse it affects everyone. the writers of this book even took out the author of a child's book because they confused his name with someone else. Way to research. If they couldn't get this right can you imagine what else 'wrong' this board of educators will be teaching the future rulers of America?

-->Hate and intolerance and ignorance will start in the history books, moves to sociology and before you know it is in the first readers of the kindergartners If there is a way to vote this down or eliminate the indoctrinate into the public school system, it should be done. It may seem like a little thing and not much can come from it, but look back into history (Jewish, racial, religious....) and you will see the little slaps, annoyances became tools of wars and mistreatment and the annihilation of many lives.
“I feel that we as Americans are all equal and held together by a common thread. Like a treasured beaded necklace of different colors held together on a string, we are held together by our necessities and our circumstances and our humanity. Every color helps to make the necklace beautiful. We can never be a totally separate entity! Americans of all colors are so integrated that if we hurt one, we hurt all. Just like that necklace of treasured beads, leave one out and the gap is seen. Break the chain and many of us are lost.

.What do you believe? This is my belief and I won't change it.
    -->
This is the reason I wrote Beads on a String America’s Racially Intertwined Biographical History, so that equality and tolerance can be taught to our children.
